Seagate Thinking of Acquiring OCZ

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 20/07/2012 00:00:00 CEST - Category: SSD

For a long time, Seagate has been thinking that SSD was only a minor product, dedicated to a niche market. The current mass adoption of such storage units by Apple in its MacBook Air, MacBook Pro Retina as well as the strategy followed by Intel to push their use by default in Ultrabooks, have changed the draw.

So we should not be surprised as reported by Fudzilla that Seagate might be interested in acquiring OCZ as this small company has massively invested and capture a large marketshare on the SSD market. in Addition, it would give engineers from Seagate access to SSD controller technologies.

In fact, investing in OCZ would probably be rather "cheap" for Seagate today, and it might well cost much more in couple of years... today OCZ is currently evaluated to 300 million USD.
