Qualcomm Switch to 28 nm engraving for its ARM Chips

Qualcomm is manufacturing ARM chips found in many cell phones, however the company is struggling to deliver as much chips as expected by its customers. The company has then decided to extend the number of founders in charge of producing its chips, and have announced that UMTC and Samsung will produce 28 nm engraved chips.

The information is rather interesting. Indeed, it indicates that Samsung can now produce chips with such thin engraving. So if we consider that Samsung manufactures Apple Ax chips, we can expect the next generation iPhone to have a 28 nm engraved A5X or A6. So Apple could increase performance and frequency while preserving power consumption and heat release, something critical as the migration to 4G drains a lot of energy.
