For 140 million USD, Intel will acquire the knowledge, know-how (some employees) and license related to CPU and hardware interconnection. With such purchase, Intel is strengthening its position on the supercomputing market, as this is a field with a predicted high growth rate in the coming years for defense/military or science purposes. The company has set the goal high with the first expected Exascale supercomputer around 2018.
