Intel Acquires Licenses from Cray

After acquiring QLogic, the specialist of high performance Infiniband networks, Intel keeps shopping for technologies and knowledge in the field on high speed data transfer. This time, Intel made a deal with the specialist of servers, Cray. 
For 140 million USD, Intel will acquire the knowledge, know-how (some employees) and license related to CPU and hardware interconnection. With such purchase, Intel is strengthening its position on the supercomputing market, as this is a field with a predicted high growth rate in the coming years for defense/military or science purposes. The company has set the goal high with the first expected Exascale supercomputer around 2018. In addition, some nations are running for the krone of the owner of the fastest supercomputer, such as USA and China, as they can be used to crack encrypted confidential data.
