Samsung has been systematically suing Apple in numerous countries for patent infringement. Apple has always been presenting the same defense line: patent-linked royalties were already integrated in the price of Qualcomm chips, so there is no reason to pay royalties twice. The battle has been jugged in only few countries, and Apple managed to convince local authorities of its business right. However, Samsung has been appealing and several other law suites, based on different claims have been initiated against Apple. But a recent news might change a bit the course of this battle.
Intel and Qualcomm have decided to help Apple by providing Apple lawyers with the source code of concerned chips. Such move should demonstrate that Apple does not infringe any patent belonging to Samsung, and on-going legal procedures should end quickly. This is a major move from Intel and Qualcomm, and it remains unclear if Apple had to "pay" something as it is rather unlikely that this decision has been taken "for free"...
