You probably know that for competing against Apple, Samsung has been launching new products as well as lawsuits targeting Cupertino giant, based on patent-infringement around mobile phone technologies. The current dispute between both companies is related to royalties that Apple claimed to have already paid, as already included in the price of GSM chips purchased from supplier, and that Samsung is using some of its patents to try to build a monopoly and prevent competition.
As a consequence of the very aggressive move of Samsung on the legal field, the European Commission decided to investigate the strategy and lawsuits launched by the Korean company. In summary, the EC probes Samsung over possible patent rights abuses, and more extensively will launch an antitrust investigation into Samsung. This is a major hit for Samsung and might end up in a huge fine... remember Microsoft and Intel had to pay nearly 1 billion Euros or more...
