We keep receiving reports of issues with Time Capsule second generation units (especially for 1 TB model). In most cases, the failure happens within the first 30 months. If this is really the beginning of a general problem, the number of reports should keep increasing as first models were released in 2009.
Keep in mind that if you purchased your Time Capsule together with a Mac covered by a Extended protection plan, it also applies to your Time Capsule, so you will be covered. As reported by most users, the HD in the faulty TC still works so it can be recovered and data saved or transferred.
We will keep following this story, and would to remind users and Apple, that if the company launched a general recall for the first generation of Time Capsule, it refused to acknowledge the similar issue identified with the Airport Express station.
