We all remember that the first generation of Time Capsule have been facing issues linked to their power supply, and in more detail to bad quality power chip. This was already an issue that affected the first generation of Airport Express. It ended up by a general recall of Time Capsule units produced in a defined time frame, and afterwards, it seemed that this story was now history...
However, we start receiving reports of problems with units from the second generation of Time Capsule, released in 2009. Those models (essentially 1 TB unit, MB765LL) show similar symptoms and defects, leading to a sudden failure. We had one unit in hands and disassembled it. All chips on the power supply board looked intact and the replacement of the supply board did not fix the issue. So, it seems that the problem is coming from another place, while the HD itself was still fully functional once installed in another enclosure.
