With the Radeon HD 7970, AMD is surfing on a success wave and capture the krone of the fastest single GPU graphic card currently available on the market. Initially, Nvidia was planning to launch its new graphic cards based on 28 nm engraved GPU in March/April, but the company might have decided to release them earlier and to unveil its GeForce GTX 680 early February.
If the clock frequency will not evolve when compared to the GF GTX 580 (870 MHz), other improvements will allow the model to be faster and to compete with the high-end Radeon model. It could host up to 2 GB of VRAM on a 512 bits bus.
It remains unclear if Apple will again offer Nvidia GPU on its computers, as the company has been banned after the scandal of the bugged GF 6x00. The good point of having a real competition between both GPU leaders is the price, as we should see them decreasing, and let's hope that we will not need too many tricks and we will get soon Mac Edition models for all those new cards.
