According to Pocket-Lint, Apple (as well as Samsung) might be interested be a technology developed by the company HzO, and making electronic devices waterproof.
This is a surface treatment preventing water to enter into such protected devices. If the demo is indeed impressive, this treatment would be available as a feature to prevent electronic devices to fail or die due to a random or accidental exposition to water or other liquids (soda or drinks). It could be a much better approach than the famous liquid detecting sensor used by Apple in its products.
