We are regularly talking about the RAM market, and the current low price for customers. Of course, it is a nightmare for companies and we might experience some concentration in the field.
According to some rumors, the Japanese government is pushing Toshiba to acquire one of its competitor Elpida, as the latest is not able to face its debts (6 billion USD) and consequently cannot invest into R&D anymore. During the same time, Elpida might be looking into a a partnership with another RAM memory giant, Micron.
It might well be the first step of a larger movement on this market, leading to a smaller number of RAM manufacturers in the coming weeks.
