After the recent news about the forthcoming Xeon and their potential performance level improvement, it is time to comment on the new graphic card rumored to come with the new Mac Pro.
Engraved at 28 nm, and hosting 4 billions transistors for 2048 processing units, this card seem to be delivering high performance levels. When compared to the previous HD 6970, performance gains range from +30 to +50%, a rather substantial improvement.
Of course the Mac Pro is not designed to be game-dedicated hardware, so we will rather have to follow the performance of GPGPU applications with Open CL to evaluate further the new graphic card.
It will also be interesting to see how Apple will be managing Thunderbolt on the new Mac Pro. It will require additional connectors and and PCI-Express lines.
