We talked several times about Mac Defender, a malware that was telling people that there was a virus on their Mac, offering to remove it while it was in reality stealing their credit card information.
This attack was also dangerous for Apple's reputation as the company refused at first to help customers affected by the virus. Due to the outcry that followed that decision, (even though Microsoft never helped anyone getting rid of viruses before a small anti-virus software was included in Windows) Apple rapidly included a protection in Mac OS X, although it was not a very efficient system.
It looks like the company that started it all has been discovered. It was apparently a Russian company called ChronoPay. The Russian police had evidence showing the company's implication, so they got a warrant to search the company's building.
For now it is over even though we fear that other hackers could reuse the same system in the future.
