These last few years, it has happened quite often that capital data was lost or stolen from companies, administrations, or individuals when a laptop was stolen or sometimes when a robber was stealing the hard drive of the copy machine, which was in that case too smart.
Toshiba decided to offer solutions to these sensitive areas with a line of hard drives that will do everything to prevent the data from being stolen. These 2.5" disks are available capacities ranging from 160 to 640 GB and feature the Wipe technology. It features several security levels, and in any case the totality of the data is enciphered.
- At the highest level, the hard drive will erase the encipherment key if the hard drive is not powered anymore.
- At a lower level, it will keep its data if disconnected from the power source, but will erase the key if it is connected to another computer.

In the second case, it will be necessary to have a good password on the computer, not in the system, but in the bios of the EPI. It has been really the case in Apple's laptops only since the launch of the 2010 MacBook Air and the 2011 MacBook Pro.
