According to Information Week, Motorola hired former Apple and Adobe engineers to develop its own mobile OS.
Without denying the existence of the project, a spokesperson declared yesterday that Motorola is "committed to Android as an operating system". In order probably not to worry developers and share holders, Motorola is not giving much information about the project.
The company hired specialists of web standards such as Gilles Drieu, who left Apple in March last year, and who is not Vice President in charge of software engineering.
When it comes to something as important as the OS, it is easy to understand the need of companies to differentiate from one another and to reduce the risk of dependency on one single provider, Google. The new system will be a Web-based os, just like HP's WebOS (bought from palm for 1.2 billion dollars), but it will take several years before we can see it on a device.
