Nvidia enrich its series of mobile chip 400M

A few months ago, Nvidia launched Geforce GTX 480M, the first Fermi graphics card intended for the laptops.

However it had a crippling defect, the power consumption of the chip was on par with a desktop machine and completely unsuited for portables except for certain transportable PC that are more a kind of mobile work stations than computers intended to remain in a rucksack.
Last week, the foundry announced a new series of the Fermi more adapted to the portables. There are : GTX 470M, GTX 460M, GTX 445M, GT 435M, GT 425M, GT 420M, GT 415M…
Under a common denomination with the first 4, one finds 4 variations different from the Fermi with more or less frequency, more or less calculating units, memory different, DDR5 for the high-end and DDR for the others.

If Apple preserves its preference for NVidia, the next MacBook Pro should pick something in the series of the GT with at best in high-end the 435M. There would not have therefore colossal gains of performances in 3D. What will evolve especially, will be the computing power in GPGPU. But this is a detail under OS X where we still await the revolution of Snow Leopard for this segment.
