The Cloud is very popular. A lot of companies, Google, Amazon and many others started investing in what they envision as the future of computers, having huge servers farms. Apple has started building an enormous data center that will cost a few billions.
Dell also decided to enter that market by purchasing 3PAR, a company specialized in that field. The first offer was for $1.15 billion and the deal seemed to be made.
However, HP arrived, decided to put a higher bid and everything went wrong. HP offered $1.6 billion, and Dell then offered a little over that. HP attacked again and set the price to $1.8 billion. Yesterday, Dell offered $2 billion, almost twice their original offer, and the fight is probably not over yet.
3PAR shareholders are the ones that will benefit the most from that deal, and they probably hope that the offers will continue to go up.
