According to the latest evaluations, Apple is currently selling 200,000 iPad units per week, so more than figures from all Mac units all together.
This number is very impressive, even though we need to add the following information:
- the iPad is a brand new product, so the hype and interest might drive current sales, however, nobody knows on the longterm how it will work.
- the iPad as the fist iPod, is a well finished product arriving on a still new and growing market.
- the iPad has a great potential still unexplored
- Mac are maybe not selling as well as the iPad as the design did not really evolve a,d Apple is slow in releasing upgrade for the Mac Pro for example.
We think we will still need one year, before seeing something new on the hardware and software sides as most resources have been devoted to the iPad, and if its success lasts longer than expected, it could join the iPhone and drive further Apple's success story. We do not think as some analysts that the iPad will be another success machine.
