Many of you have criticized the recent increase which affected the Macbooks during their renewal. They passed from 899 to 999€ which is a significant increase. However, while looking at this more closely, their price did not change in the United States. They are always to $999 (net of tax). This price increase is not due to Apple, but to the collapse of the euro compared to the dollar.
When the Macbook of the preceding range was released, the dollar had a value of 0,68€ approximately. Under these condition, The price of the MacBook converted to 812€ including all taxes. Apple thus took close to 100€ as a margin on foreign exchange rate.
Today, the dollars is worth approximately 0,82€. While observing the same rules, one arrives at a converted macbook price and including all taxes of 979€. Apple thus applies here a margin of 20€ compared to the American price.
To summarize the things, they will gain henceforth much less on one MacBook 2010 that on a model 2009. The accounts of the subsidiary, Apple Europe, may plunge in a very significant way. This should reinvigorate them to restart with the conquest of an increased market shares.
