According to the website Eurocom, some (near) future notebooks should host a GeForce GTX 480M. If this chips does not exist officially yet, its name indicates that it should be based on the Fermi architecture. So, this chips should be designed for GPGPU, and would turn such equipped notebooks into power crushing units. One important point remains to be clarified. How will NVIDIA deal with power management, as this Fermi-based GPU is far from being low power consuming unit. Even though the raw power per unit/core is impressive, overall power consumption figure remains high, so NVIDIA might have to offer a variable clock speed for its GPU, depending on the type of power used by the notebook at a defined time, or reduce the number of cores. We will know more in June, as the first notebooks sporting a Fermi-based GPU should be available.
