A report from a reader of Overclockers.com illustrates how counterfeited products can be found in an increasing number of places, here the new target is the popular Intel Core i7:

Retrospect, we could spot some weird details, otherwise the box looked identical to a true and valid one, and would not indicate the bad surprise found inside:

One the content unpacked, there is clearly a counterfeited product, a fake fan, empty booklet and fake CPU. From its external aspect and its weight, the product looked real, however its is only fake contents inside. We could have not been so surprise if this would have been purchased from eBay or some exotic online shops, but here it was a product ordered from NewEgg, a rather serious reference in its field. For sure the website has been fooled as at least 2 customers have reports similar problems, so the original stocks must have been "contaminated" with counterfeited products.
