Following other SS manufacturers (among them OCZ and OWC), G.Skill announced its future SSD models based on the SandForce 1200 controller:
All models will arrive in April and will be slightly different than current models based on the same controller. If we will have choice between a 100 and 200 GB units, There will also be a large capacity model offering 500 GB of storage space. The price is currently not known, but this new high-end model will most likely cost around 1 500 USD.
Regarding SandForce controller, G.Skill will not offer models based on the SandForce 1500 (high end controller). Indeed, if the 1500 model is identical to the 1200, its firmware is available for a premium price of 100 USD! a extra cost that many manufacturers will refuse to pay for mid-range SSD models. Maybe by making this controller so precious, the number of licenses will not be as high as expected and SandForce will have to reduce its price.
