A declaration by the Vice President of operations of Google is likely to light a fire between Google and the providers of traditional OS, Microsoft and Apple.
He thinks that in 3 years time the desktop machines such as they are conceived today will be obsolete. The future would belong to smaller devices, in a word: the mobile phone, which would be connected to large servers, that one commonly calls Cloud.
Of course, Google with Android, its servers omnipresent and the future Chrome OS which will just be a minimalist system supported by their servers would be then be the king of the world or almost.
This is precisely the future of computing according to Google. Everything would pass through their servers, capable of brute-force computing and of data storage. Even though there is an undeniable advantage with these solutions, there are, of course, disadvantages that you will be able to discuss on the forums.
