OCZ annonced the future availability of a Limited Edition of one of its SSD models, the Vertex LE.
This drive is based on the current best controller on the market, the SandForce. OCZ claims it can delivers up to 270 MB/s reading and 250 MB/s writing with 15,000 IO/s. This Limited Edition will be available with 100 or 200 GB, for an estimated price of 400 or 800 USD.
They are so far no report of SandForce-based SSD in Mac, however, several manufacturers plan in addition to OCZ to bring SandForce-based models on the market. Price should then quickly decrease when several models with similar specification would be available. Last but not least, while they feature 128 or 256 GB of flash memory, those models will only be available as 100 or 200 GB unit, as the remaining capacity will be kept to offer space for recovering data or replacing dead memory cells.
