Nokia: 1 million USD to Boost OVI

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 12/01/2010 03:11:00 CET - Category: Apple - Source: Tom's Hardware.fr

If the AppStore is the preferred online store for developers, this is mostly because Apple found the equilibrium between its margins and developers profits. As a result, 3 billion applications have been downloaded within 18 months. So, chances of making money with the AppStore are much higher than with any other mobile platform, such as OVI, the Nokia online store.

Nokia understood that the AppStore is also now a driving engine for iPhone sales as many users know that they could get free or cheap but useful apps from the App Store. So, to boost sales of its own mobile phone models, Nokia decided to launch a challenge to developers, the winner for the best application price will get 1 million USD. For sure this will attract developers, however, it remains to be seen if it will continue on the longterm or if once the excitement of the competition gone, most of those developers will go back to the Apple AppStore...
