Intel transmits video using Wi-Fi

Intel has announced a technology called "Wiress Display" for creating display via wifi.

According to Intel, it allows a computer to display on another screen or television sets if they have a HDMI input. It is necessary to have an Intel laptop fitted with the latest Centrino platform equipped with an i3, i5 or i7 Core processor and also an Intel Wi-Fi Intel card and obviously not any other. On the other end it is necessary to have a specific receiver manufactured by NetGear.
Two problems arise. To start, many manufacturers of portables, with Apple at the head, do not use the Wi-Fi chips of Intel and this would make them incompatible even though this incompatibility is certainly more commercial than technical.  The other problem is related to the bandwidth. This solution uses Wi-Fi 802.11n that one knows that the data flow fluctuates according to the environment. This will, in any event, be too light weight, even with compression/decompression to use for viewing a film in fluid HD. This solution thus will be more certainly intended for the still images or the videos with a low data flow. As a last point, this technology is not compatible with DRM and will thus not be allowed to forward Blu-ray contents even in a largely degraded format. In spite of these limitations, this technology will be marketed as of January 17.
One can find compatible portables from Sony, Toshiba and Dell, and the receiver will be on sale in the United States at Best Buy.
