The recent SDHC format is now EOL as the race to a larger storage capacity quickly pushed models to the upper limit of 32 GB. Last January, a new SD card format was announced: the SDXC. It defines a maximal storage capacity of 2 TB with transfer speed reaching 300 MB/s. However, this initial announcement was not really followed by any new reports, except information from toshiba for the 64 GB SDXC card in August:
Well, this is now close to real. Toshiba announced to have produced first samples of such card, and mass production and availability should be around spring 2010. At this time, one would need to have compatible devices (new models, or previous models with a firmware update) able to work with such SDXC cards. As usual, it should first be found in high-end HD camcorder and DSLR.
