If the SATA III only starts to be found on high-end workstation, it is almost impossible to find HD with this specification (beside some forthcoming or samples of SSDs). However, things should change quickly as Western Digital announced that WD Caviar Green 2 TB, 64 MB cache, with advanced formatting will be available with a SATA III port instead of todays SATA II (informatio ndirectly obtained from WD representative). The manufacturer will adopt the new format for the rest of its models over the coming year. One should not expect a major jump in performance, and in the best case scenario only a larger cache of the HD will benefit from this larger SATA bandwidth. One will still need a long time before seeing plate-based HD to reach 300 MB/s in transfer speed.
