In the United States majority of the manufacturers of LCD screens have been found guilty of practicing price fixing. They all came to an agreement with the American authorities and paid heavy fines to avoid being prohibited to sell their products.
Even though this business is finished, or almost, with the authorities, it is now the turn of Nokia to file a complaint on this subject in the United States. They wants to obtain damages since they have lost money by paying over the odds for the screens.
On a technical point of view, they are certainly right. On a practical point of view, all manufacturers of mobiles phones had certainly the same problem, therefore there was no distortion of the competition. Moreover, those which really overpaid for the finished product are the customers who bought their mobiles. Alas, there is little chance that the customers can recover this. However, Nokia suffered a big loss in the last quarters, a first since 10 years, and would certainly be happy to receive a large cheque or to be entitled to substantial discount on its next screens.
