Last year, main companies in component manufacturing (among them Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Toshiba, Olympus, Pioneer) announced the development of a new wireless format named TransferJet. Working with a frequency of 4.48 GHz, this technology aims to transfer data at 375 Mbits/s (real) over few centimeters and up to 560 Mbits/s.
It is not designed to install or create computer network, but rather to empty the storage unit of a camera or a music player without requiring to plug it physically to a computer. One will only need to place it nearby the computer in order to get the integrated connector into the connection range.

Sony announced the availability of 2 chips compatible with this format. One of them is designed to be integrated into PCI/PCI-Express cards, while the other one will find its way in dedicated USB key or electronic devices. All companies involved will now push this format forward and promote it to maybe make it a standard for wireless connection.
