First Steps of the New JMicron JMF612 Controller

by linathael . Original by Lionel - 13/10/2009 10:03:42 CEST

Those following the news related to SSD know the the controller JMicron JMF602. It has been widely used for entry level SSD and delivered average performance level, especially due to the lack of external cache memory and the too small internal cache quickly saturated when having to deal with multiple random writing tasks.
Announced in June, JMicron announced that the JMF612 is found in a SSD drive from PhotoFast.

The new controller is now featuring 128 MB of cache. It delivers 255 MB/s in reading mode and 170 MB/s in writing mode. In random reading access, the worst condition for its predecessor, it now offers 12 MB/s, a good result, even thought it remains far below than the reference SSD, Intel X25-M. ITs main advantage is its price, as the 128 GB SSD is around 230 €.
