According to Gartner, Androïd will overtake the iPhone OS by 2012

An analysis by Gartner predicts that the operating system, Androïd, for mobiles by Google, will pass in front of the iPhone OS, and also Windows Mobile and Blackberry by 2012. By then it could be second with 14% of market shares behind Symbian which has a comfortable advance at the moment of nearly 50% but would drop to under 40%.

To justify these predictions, the analyst puts a lot of weight on the fact that Google puts an enormous effort to promote its OS while making it as attractive as possible.
Without needing to return to the maze of the analyzes, it is obvious that OS of Google will end up overshadowing its competitors. However the main victim will not be Apple. The company does not seek to dominate the market, but only to monopolize a very lucrative segment. Admittedly, the situation could change, but it would imply releasing the cheaper phones or, a thing difficult to consider, to give licences of its OS to other manufacturers, ie a clone - a word banished at Apple.
The company that has most to lose is certainly Microsoft, since it offers its OS to manufacturers, and now it will have to compete with a free and increasingly sexy alternative, and this makes things difficult. The analyst envisages a problematic future by predicting fourth place in the classification behind Apple and in front of Blackberry.
