An analyst predict that if the DisplayPort will take over DVI as the new standard for video port, it will be by step and primarily with notebooks. The main driving force for the adoption of the DisplayPort is its low power consumption when compared to other format.
However, one will first need to quickly and strongly push display/monitor manufacturers to adopt this port mini DisplayPort and offer models featuring it. Of course, electronic components required for the DisplayPort will have a cost, but many users are ready to pay a little premium (10-20 USD/€) to have such port natively integrated in 22"+ display. The first manufacturer to offer a good display with a mini DisplayPort at a reasonable price when compared to the Apple 24 LED Cinema display will most likely capture a large percentage of MacBook Pro owners who are desperately waiting for an alternative option.
