I have just noted that with the last `firmware' of Western Digital My Book World (numbered 1.00.28), a new user was configured (WD_Backup) and shows up in the Leopard finder as a new disc (with a Time Capsule icon). On Snow Leopard, the disc is present, but without the icon. In both cases, from now on, it is possible to select this new disc to carry out a TimeMachine backup (and it works).
Here, one can thus from now on safeguard on a NAS without specific parameter setting, for less expensive qu' Time Capsules.
A PDF detailing the update confirms well that NAS is henceforth compatible with Time Machine without having to enter commands with terminal. By chance, this news comes at a time when the reliability of Time Capsule is strongly called into question. More,http://wdc.custhelp.com/.
