An old rumor just came reappeared: Apple would release a Mac Tablet this fall and Verizon would be its partner to launch it, as they did it in the past with AT&T for the iPhone.
Frankly, we are not excited at all with such announcement, and even a bit scared. Indeed, getting a carrier associated could imply that this Mac Tablet will turn into a large iPod Touch-like device entirely linked to applications available from the AppStore. We would be puzzled by this new concept as customers will have a limited choice of applications when one sees how weird criteria/parameters for the selection for the AppStore can be.
In addition, it would then also imply that Apple will open the iPhone to all/more carriers in USA. The choice of Verizon might be based on a purely technical point of view as this carrier is known for having the best 3G network in USA. This rumor could also be a way for Apple to press AT&T for accepting some financial agreements linked to the requested extension of exclusive partnership beyond the end of the year.
