A shortage of MacBook Pro 13" ? No, of 250 GB disks

by crispin . Original by Lionel - 08/07/2009 07:22:40 CEST

Since yesterday, very many sites have relayed information according to which the Macbook Pro 13" is such a success that Apple can not manage to follow the demand for the top-of-the-range  2,53 GHz model. This model has indeed a delivery date of 7 to 10 days against 24:00 for other models.

It does not take much studying to see that this information is false and that the shortage from which Apple suffers is not on its machines, but with the 250 GB 5400 rpm hard disks. If one chooses such a disk on the entry-line model, it also gets a deliver date of 7 to 10 days. Also, it is enough to replace the 250 GB hard drive of the 2,53 GHz model to find that the manufacturing lead time changes to 3 days, which is normal for a nonstandard machine.
In short, the only problem that Apple seems to have is a shortage of 250 GB disks.
