First SSDs from Western Digital
Following the acquisition of Silicon Systems, Western Digital launched its first SSDs.

Without much surprise, those models are in fact rebranded Silicon Systems products. Unfortunately for Western digital, those HDs are not designed for the consumer electronics market, but rather targeting niche market such as embedded system for difficult environment (cars, aeronautic, etc.). Their performance levels are significantly lower than the leading products from consumer-oriented SSD manufacturers.
Indeed, writing speed is around 100 MB/s while writing speed is 80 MB/s. In addition, storage space ranges from 30 to 120 GB.
Current disc-based manufacturers will have a hard time to catch up on the SSD market if they do not react quickly; some players are now building a strong leadership on this emerging market.
