Over the past years, one could have thought that Apple was only motivated by selling as much hardware unit as possible, and that the company was not interested in providing additional services to customers. In USA, Apple is now offering new services to customers especially targeting upgrade of already purchased Macs. Of course, it only concerns HD for the moment, but it is worth taking notice of this service.
As an example, upgrading the HD of a notebook will cost you 345 USD for installing a 2.5" HD 500 GB 7200 rpm. For this price, you will get:
- Shipping costs both ways.
- Transfer of your data from the original HD to the new one.
- Installation of the new HD as well as entire cleaning of the computer.
- Sending back the upgraded computer as well as the old HD.
When summing up all costs, it should be twice more expensive than installing the new HD yourself, however not everybody has the skill and patience to do it. In addition, all you data are transfered, and for the end users it is completely transparent. For sure you will pay the service, but it might help many users only willing to increase their storage capacity and not necessarily their purchase a new computer.
