In a difficult economic environment in USA and worldwide, Apple seemed to be less affected than other companies in the same market. Some data related to sales and published by NPD indicate that the current difficult economic environment started to hit Apple. Mac sales might have decreased by 1.8 % between March and April, almost negligible in volume, however, customers are now selecting entry-level models, those with the smallest margins for Apple. So, the related income might have gone down by 11 % over the same time period. Sales of iPods also went down by 9 %, but data for the iPhone are not included and might have been compensating for this decrease in this segment.
Apple can still adjust its price list in order to support sales, even thought it is not a usual policy for the company. On the other ends, sales of PC netbooks are also going down quickly as customers originally seduced by the size factor also realize that they need CPU power. Of course Apple with dozen of billions USD in bash, might just go through this crisis without even noticing it, except of the NYSE. It might also be the time for the company to release a new product, able to build its own market place.
