If you own a Mac Pro equipped with a GeForce 8800GT, and are wondering what will be the performance gain if you replace it with a Radeon HD 4890, hereafter is part of the answer illustrated by the results of a test performed with GLView.

Tests have been performed with high resolution 2560x1600 and have shown that the HD 4890 is about 2.5x faster than the GeForce card. We like this test has it is reliable and results are stable over independent sessions. Overall, the performance gain is substantial, not only for gamers but also for Pro users using application based on Open CL acceleration.
As a reminder, the Radeon HD 4890 is clocked 100 MHz higher than the Radeon HD 4870, and 125 MHz for the memory frequency. While the Mac Edition sports "only" 512 MB of VRAM, the HD 4890 is loaded with 1 GB, and cost 100 USD... less.
