What About a New Mac Pro with 128 GB or RAM?
Samsung, the largest memory module manufacturer in the world, announced to have started the production of its new DDR3 ECC modules, specifically dedicated to Xeon Nehalem-based hardware, in other words the new Mac Pro.

Samsung offers 18 references of DDR3 ECC modules with various capacities, up to 16 GB/module. So, one could in theory be able to install up to 128 GB of RAM in the new Mac Pro powered by a dual Quad Core Nehalem. For Mac Pro models sporting only one CPU it remains unclear if such modules could be used, as Apple only offers a maximum of 8 GB (4x2 GB), while octo core-based models can officially accept 4 GB modules (so total of 32 GB). It remains to be confirmed that the current hardware could support/manage such huge RAM memory capacity. In the past, Apple was defining the maximal amount of RAM to be installed accordingly to the RAM modules available at the time of certification. If modules with larger capacities were released later, they were almost always compatible, however, Apple never updated its specification sheets.
