A German newspaper reports that Ericsson, the well-known mobile phone designer and manufacturer, associated since years with Sony, might be looking to recover its freedom. The hidden reasons of such potential move are of course unknown, but Ericsson is also one of the largest worldwide internet and mobile infrastructure companies, and might be aiming to reorganize its activities as its profit margins and financial results have significantly dropped.
It is also possible that the Nordic company is acting in such a way to be acquired entirely by Sony, as the latter would be in a difficult position. Without this partnership on the mobile phone market, the Japanese giant will have difficulties to promote some of its popular trademark-linked products such as Walkman and Cybershot associated today with several Sony-Ericsson mobile phone models.
