A new software, GMA booster promises the overclocking of the GMA 950 that is fitted in the first MacBook Intel and the Mac mini.
Since we do not have these machines on hand, we have not been able yet to test it, but the site reports that it would be possible, without changing the tension of the chip, to increase its rate by a factor 2,4. This is possible because the GMA, most of the time, is running at a low frequency to consume the least possible.
Attention, it is imperative to install the CHUD tools to make it function.
PS: This is a beta which seems only functional until March 15.
[Update] Since we can not test it, we cast an eye at its code. Here some explanations.
Depending on the machine in which it is installed, the GMA 950 can run at 166 MHz, 250 MHz or at best at 400 MHz. The software makes it possible to jump one of these low frequencies to a higher. However Apple only used two frequencies in its Mac. The Mac Mini is already at 400 MHz. The software will thus do nothing.
On the other hand, the MacBook runs with the GMA at 250 MHz. It will be thus possible to push it to 400 MHz. We do not think that this will cause an overheating of the machine (to be checked nevertheless!). On the other hand, the battery life will suffer from it a little since the fanss should run more often.
