A good example of a market in constant mobility is that of the netbooks. Asus is one of the most unstable manufacturer of this market, continuously evolving its ranges at a frantic rate, issuing its products under several sizes among heaps of different models. Proof that this market is not mature. Asus has just announced that it would cease marketing models equipped with 8,9" screens (EEEPC 9xx) to concentrate on the next size up, the 10".
To a certain extent this will comfort to Apple in its decision of not jumping on this bandwagon, preferring to see the way in which it was going to evolve. Note that their announcement of their bad January figures may convince them of the need to also fight in this segment at least not to lose market share. The latest news is that the Netbook represents 30% in volume of the sales in zone EMEA (Europe-Middle East-Africa) that is to say 7 million machines in 2008 including 3,6 million during the last quarter.
