According to
Appleinsider, Apple has started to purchase components to be used in the future iPhone. As usual the main part will have to deal with flash memory, and Apple request is to high that price might start increasing as many production lines are currently on hold due to the general economic slow down.
On a more practical point of view, it would not be surprising if Apple would start signing contracts for flash memory, as the current prices are so low, and will most likely not go much lower in the future. As the memory remains one of the most expensive component of the iPhone, any saving will have an impact on the final price of the device (or on Apple's margin...).
