Apple has published a technical note about the immersion sensors that now abound in the new portables (since the Unibody models).
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3425?viewlocale=en_US

The rules are clear for them. If these sensors indicate that a liquid came into contact with the machine, the guarantee, legal or extended by Apple care, will be regarded as cancelled. The note leaves an open door however since only the problems involved with the immersion will not be covered. It will be necessary however to discuss with the "after sales service" to know if the breakdown is related to a liquid or another cause. Indeed, with the sensors being placed under the keyboard, there remains the possiblity that a little liquid has just "coloured' them without reaching the mother card, that could breakdown some time later on.
After having announced to last week the first chip of DDR3 of
512 MB and engraved in 50nm Samsung announced the following record.
They succeeded in producing the first chip of DDR2 engraved in 40nm. In addition to the reduced consumption, the chips engraved with this technology allow a 60% increase of productivity from each silicon wafer - since more chips can be fitted onto each wafer.
They will start to produce chips of DDR3 engraved in 40nm by the end of the year.
This series of advertisements are not innocent. They have two goals. The first is to reassure the investors in a market that is a total disaster at the moment. The second is more pernicious; these advertisements are intended to prove to the competition the advances in technology and thus to push them to spend on R&D when their finances are already stretched.
