Let's start the new year with the latest MWSF 2009 rumors roundup:
- Apple is thinking of providing an
online version of iWork, following Adobe on its way to online free applications (aka web apps), as Microsoft is also planning it. Apple might use the Open Source technology SproutCore allowing a rather easy porting.
- As we previously indicated it, the Mac mini will be
refreshed. Beside the adoption of the GeForce 9400M chipset, it might feature a second HD instead of its SuperDrive as a BTO. It should also feature metal enclosure, marking the end of plastic for all Apple's branded hardware (as the new iMac will also be Alu based, similarly to the MacBook unibody).
- Apple might
launch for Fall 2009 a super iPod Touch featuring a 7 or 9" display, offering a multitouch interface for a device of the size of a Mac Tablet...
- The new iMac to be announced at the MWSF will use desktop processors, however, there are some uncertainty regarding the type of CPU to be used. It will be at least a Core 2 Quad, or the brand new Intel Core i7. However the latest based on the LGA 1366 socket is incompatible with earlier processors (Core 2 Duo or Quad). Intel Core i7 is a family of three Intel desktop x86-64 processors, the first processor released using the Intel Nehalem micro-architecture and is the successor to the Intel Core 2 family. In other words, if Apple releases a Core 2 Quad-based iMac, it will be using a micro-architecture on its end of life, while adoption of the Nehalem will offer both better heat release control and a new architecture to live on for easily 1 or 2 upgrade.
