As expected, the
USB 3.0 Promoter Group unveiled the final specifications of the last USB evolution. Performance wise the USB 3.0 should be 10x faster than the USB 2.0.

Unlike you might have read it on other websites, this new format will be backwards compatible with the USB 2.0. So, one will be able to plug an USB 2.0 device on USB 3.0 port. One will have to wait till 2009, and most likely 2010, for a real availability of USB 3.0 devices as well as USB 3.0-based computers. If the future Firewire 1600 and 3200 formats are not quickly finalized and promoted, Apple might drop support for Firewire in future hardware models, as initiated with the MacBook.
Apple has a firmware update for the trackpads of the new portables.
This firmware update addresses an issue where trackpad clicks may not be recognized on MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) computers.
The update program starts automatically once the installation has finished. Follow the instructions to finish the procedure for this update. (If the update asks to restart the system, the update program will restart after you have reopened your session)

TSMC, one of the largest foundries announced to be henceforth ready to take orders and to produce chips engraved at 40nm.
This new manufactoring process allows, according to TSMC, to obtain for the same chip design an increase to higher frequencies by 30% or a saving of 45% energy consumption. It, of course, makes it possible to produce more chips on a silicon wafer.
The first to use it will certainly be the graphic card manufacturers, NVidia in the lead, since they do not have any factory themselves. It is probable that they will take advantage of this new process to produce a less power hungry version of the Geforce 9400M so that they can touch the market of the ultra portables.
