Following our previous news about the future of the Mac mini, some sources and rumors indicate that its current EOL status might be only temporary before seeing its resurrection. According to the last information, the new hardware will be mostly derived from the recently released MacBook models. So, new Mac mini (if it remains named as such) would:
- Include the new mini DisplayPort
- Support up to 4 GB of DDR2/DDR3
- The optical drive would be in SATA format, so one would easily be able to replace it by a second HD (RAID 0 or 1)
- Include the GeForce 9400 chipset
Of course the presence of FireWire ports on such Mac would please most Mac mini owners as they could upgrade to the new model without changing their external HD storage units developed by third-parties to fit with the Mac mini design. As with the MacBook models, the future mini might come without any adaptors, so if you wanted to use it in your living room as a Media Center (much more powerful than the non updated Apple TV), you might need to purchase an expensive Mini DisplayPort -> DVI, or even dream of a currently not available mini DisplayPort -> HDMI.
