After months of rumors and negotiation, NVidia finally decided to open its SLI technology to third-parties via a certification contract.
Unlike licensing, the certification will allow any third-parties to add the SLI technology only to their motherboard X58 (dedicated to Nehalem) for a fixed fee of 5 USD per unit. Overall it might increase the price of a SLI-enable motherboard by 3 to 7 %; however the benefit provided by this technology might easily justify this increase. This is potentially good news for Mac users as it might allow us to get SLI technology in our future Mac Pro, especially considering the forthcoming Snow Leopard.
