By linathael. Original by Ewok - 14/10/2008 22:17:09 CEST - Category: Apple
It has been online for couple of minutes on the French Apple Store, and couple show how Apple should only deal with qualified translator companies when it comes to localized its website, often consider as the image of the company on the web:

It means, "perfectly stupid, nobe,", or "perfect haz...", yep it is missing "çu" to give "conçu" meaning "designed".
But it does not stop here, as later on there is another nice one, about the Mac Book Pro:
Nouveau design. Nouvelles fonctionnalités. Nouvelles technologies. Entièrement conçu selon des critères qui restent à définir.
in English:
New design. New functions. New technologies. Entirely designed from criteria not defined yet.

New MacBook Pro: And Here Is the Battery and the Charge Indicator

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 14/10/2008 16:12:50 CEST - Category: Laptop - Source: Engadget
Engadget just published a new series of photos showing the lower part of the new MacBook case, and as expected, the battery is not part of the case anymore (reducing cost manufacturing):

It is now behind the lower cover. We learned that the famous hole on the side which has driven quite a lot of discussion on the web will host a button which will allow you to know at any time the battery charging status.
So, if Steve does not surprise us wit ha famous "one more thing..." there is not much to expect from the coming keynote...

Future MacBooks: Last News and Details

By linathael - 14/10/2008 14:34:42 CEST - Category: Apple
Hereafter is a collection of information we collected over the past two weeks from our sources and that already published for some of them in previous news. We also compared them with those published by the author of Daringfireball:
- Photos published by engadget are indeed stolen photos and showing a MacBook Pro 15”. According to our information, the MacBook will almost look identical even though port numbers and options will be different (as well as no speaker grid)
- As we reported it before, the trackpad is now very similar to the one found on the iPhone, a touch sensitive glass plate, no click button anymore, but a “tap click” function.
- Some Pro users might not like it, but apple will drop matte display, for all-glossy models, as all MacBook will now feature a glass plate “á la iMac” in from of the LCD panel which will ALL be LED backlighted!
- Apple will not unveil a 17” model this evening. Information are conflicting about the future of the 17” MBP, for the time being the current model will remain available on the apple Store. In the past, Apple already unveil new MBP 15” and only unveiled the 17” when the required LCD display became available.
- MacBook Pro 15” models will be immediately available, and corresponding MacBook sould be unveiled before the end of the end (tomorrow or on Friday)
- As we reported earlier, all MacBook will have their video powered by NVidia solutions, and as we announced too, it will sport by default the GeForce 9400M, even MacBooks, and the MacBook Pro will have an additional discrete GPU the GeForce 9600, bring a boost of performance when required. This is an evolution of NVidia Hybrid SLI® technology (current version, new version to be announced tomorrow as we reportedit). Such notebook will be able to fully benefit from the forthcoming GPU power aware Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
- The MacBook Air design and specifications should not be strongly modified, the entry level will feature a 120 GB HD, while a BTO SSD of 128 GB will noz be offered (probably at a premium price).

What about prices?
- Prices should remain identical despite bring entirely new design, case and hardware.
- Both MBP models will be priced at 1999 and 2499 USD, and CPU clock speed should remain unchanged with frequency ranging from 2.4 to 2.53 GHz (most likely to preserve battery lifetime, even though Centrino 2 platform provide a much better power management).
- MacBook will be available in 2 models:
* 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HD: 1299 USD
* 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD: 1499 USD
- Last but not least, Apple will maintain the entry level MacBook priced at 999 USD to offer a less than 1000 USD model.

New MacBook Pro: First Stolen Photos?

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 14/10/2008 09:15:53 CEST - Category: Laptop - Source: Engadget
Engadget published photo which could be the first stolen ones of the future MacBook Pro.

Even though, it is blurred, it shows enough of the new design to drive comments about the iMac-like display. According to Engadget, and as we reported it earlier, the MacBook Pro should feature 2 NVidia GPUs.
According to other rumors, Apple might present only the MBP 15" model during the keynote, and could not unveil the 17" model neither the MacBook.
The trackpad is now alone and does not feature any click-button; Apple seems to have adopted a touch-only technology.

Apple Sent NVidia GPU Testing Application to Apple Care Centers

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 14/10/2008 09:14:45 CEST - Category: Laptop

As Apple officially acknowledged that MacBook Pro are also affected by the defective NVidia GPU, the company will have to take care of all GPU exchange operations, then send corresponding invoices to NVidia.
In order to avoid false positive, or defect not linked to defective GPU but other components, Apple offer Apple Care centers a defined set of test to be carried out. They will have to launch the procedure and the integrated application will define which component is the faulty one. If it is indeed a NVidia GPU, the application will automatically deliver a code for sending back parts (it is the NVidia GPU serial number) which will be used to apply the extended warranty program.
Apple will then generate a good database of affected MacBook Pro, and will quickly define if the cursed GPU are affecting or not a large number of MacBook Pro. If only couples of serial numbers are involved, one could expect to have only a limited number of cursed MacBook Pro. One should not forget that NVidia initially stated that MacBook Pro was not affected by the issue.
Hereafter is a screenshot of the application during a test procedure:

The GPU is pushed to its limits to test its reliability. Unfortunately this application is not distributed to the public, it could have helped MBP owners to run their own test in advance, in order to avoid defective GPU symptoms appearing after the extended warranty period, or to get organized for a repair procedure, requiring the notebook to be send back to Apple Care.

A Storm Forecasted for NVidia

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 14/10/2008 09:12:19 CEST - Category: Video
NVidia has definitely hard time to get rid of the cursed GPU! According to a campaign launched by HP, up to 38 desktop models could be affected by defective GPU-based video issues. If the name of NVidia is not directly quoted, all hardware have in common a GeForce GPU.
The quoted GPU have never been used by Apple, as they are dedicated to entry-level PC models. With such problems to deal with, NVidia is probably accepting all compromises asked by Apple in order to get GeForce mobility GPU into the new MacBook Pro, in order to refresh its business image. We would not be surprised that Apple gets a large discount on NVidia GPU, contributing to lower the price of the future MacBook/MacBook Pro.

Several words on the Displayport

By crispin. Original by Lionel - 14/10/2008 08:38:47 CEST - Category: Video
Having read with attention the comments of our readers on our forums following the announcement that Apple will put Displayport on its machines, we decided to issue a reminder on this standard.
* To start, the standard was put in place by Video Electronics Standard Association better known under the name of VESA. They had already defined standards VGA and DVI, which gives him a great legitimacy in this field.
* The Displayport standard makes it possible to flow data at 10,8 Gbits/s, that is to say more than the DVI Dual Link and essential for 30" screens which need a data flow of 7,4 Gbits/s. It will be thus be possible in future to exceed 2560x1600 resolution. This standard is compatible with HDCP protections since its version 1.1, and just like the HDMI also makes it possible to convey in the cable the audio signal, up to with 8 channels of 192 Khz of 24 bits.
* Via simple adapters, it is possible to connect on a screen HDMI or DVI.
* One of the great advantages of Displayport, is that the Vesa group does not require royalties for use of this connector compared to the HDMI where it is necessary to pay $10000 per annum; this adds 4 cents per equipped machine for such a port.
In short, Displayport should spread in the computing world, the HDMI finding its destination in the world of television. Already, Samsung and Dell propose Displayport connectors on their top-of-the-range screens, this connector being the only one, together with the DVI Dual link, to support their maximum resolution.
If Apple starts to equip its products systematically with them, they will help to generalize the standard just like they already did with USB. Their choice is driven by what should be the future of the connectors for their screens.

Partnership between CBS and Youtube

By crispin. Original by Lionel - 14/10/2008 07:32:51 CEST - Category: Internet - Source: New York Times
Always on the search of legitimacy and a way of gaining money, Youtube announced a partnership contract with CBS. In exchange of publicity inserted in the vidéos, Youtube will propose episodes of televised series in all tranquility.
It will still be necessary to convince the public to look at these series, such as MacGyver, Beverly Hills, 90210 or Star Trek being past their first youth.
Of course, this service will be valid only in the United States; it will be neccessary to make local agreements in each country with those which hold the rights of diffusion.
